Happy Birthday America

i hope everyone had a fabulous 4th of july! yesterday morning i was planning on posting, but the day got away from me. we had some friends staying with us, and this cute little thing got to come too:
our pups were so excited to meet their cousins (yes, my best friends' dogs are my dogs' cousins because i am their aunt)

after they left, i had been dying to bake this Ina Garten flag cake cake for the holiday.

the recipe does take a little time, but it is definitely worth it--especially for the icing!

everything has to be at room temperature, so it's much easier to take them out of their packaging and let them sit. these are the wet ingredients : eggs, sour cream, butter, and vanilla

here are all the dry ingrediants: flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, corn starch, and salt
these are the ingredients for the icing (so delicious!): butter, cream cheese, powder sugar, and vanilla

and....

Voila! of course my own version of a sheet cake (because i'm not feeding 24)
but still delicious....enjoy!

vintage finds

happy saturday everyone!

earlier this week i had deemed today to be vintage shopping day. this is one of my favorite activities--i find it very therapeutic! and when i do actually discover some things, it feels much more rewarding than just picking something up in the mall because you know there is a history behind it!

i wanted to share a few finds with you all:

these 1950's clip on earrings and 1960's goblets together (and there are 6 goblets) were under $25! they came from my favorite atlanta consignment store, my sisters closet...please go check them out and the owner is lovely.

this 1960's belt, from steffan's, was my favorite treasure from the day--it fit's perfectly, and i cannot wait to wear it. watch out, they have a not very friendly black cat.

first official clean-out

today, i visited my friend, L's, apartment to do round 1 of cleaning and organizing her closets (yes plural!). we only had an hour an a half, but we definitely made some headway and decided to focus on some casual outfits today that ended up centering around denim shorts and clogs--both which i am a huge fan of.

this was a very cool lace shell that she bought in Italy that i fell in love with--i stongly recommended black or tan under the white, or she might get to far into the 80's lace look. throwing some big earrings and a scarf with this would brighten this up right away.

L and i are both super excited that clogs have come back in style. although i have not found my perfect pair--she definitely has. this is just a cute running around outfit, and i love the full bohemian top with the short shorts.

this is my favorite! this Lafayette light cashmere sweater was a gem in the back of her closet! it is so light, you can wear it anytime, and the embellishments on it are beautiful...and again, cut-off's and clogs...love!

more to come from L's closet--there are still work outfits to be done!

PS: i will be getting a mannequin form of some sort to display on--until then, this will have to do :)
